As a reminder to all of us,

The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when the thirteen American colonies declared independence from British rule. Growing discontent over issues like "taxation without representation" led the Continental Congress to convene in 1775. In June 1776, a committee, including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin, was appointed to draft the Declaration, which was formally adopted on July 4, 1776.

The first anniversary in 1777 was celebrated with bonfires, concerts, and parades, establishing traditions that continue today with fireworks, barbecues, and patriotic displays. In 1870, Congress made the Fourth of July a federal holiday, and in 1938 it became a paid holiday for federal employees. Notably, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Monroe died on July 4, while Calvin Coolidge was born on this day.

Independence Day symbolizes American freedom and national pride, reflecting on the country's founding principles of liberty and justice for all.
